Cognitive Toolkit and Resource Binder - December 2015

• Collabroated with a co-worker while on placement at Kaymar Rehabilitation to create a cognitive toolkit for occupational therapists to use with clients on home visits

• Created a resource binder for therapists to reference while planning assessment and intervention plans for clients in the community

 

Psychology Career Fair - November 2015

• Managed a booth promoting and advocating for occupational therapy and the occupational therapy program at Queen's University to undergraduate students

• Demonstrated my strong communication skills and my commitment to growing the profession by raising awareness of the work of occupational therapists

• Attended the two-day OSOT Conference in Kingston with keynote speakers who discussed the topics of compassion fatigue, community development, and a personal account of an individual who received OT services following a motor vehicle accident

• Attended four workshops on the topics of: Caregiver Education for Dementia, Feeling Stuck with your Client: Negotiating the Therapeutic Alliance, Psychotherapy: Exploring Resources, Roles and Responsibilities for Ontario OTs, and Inspiring an Occupational Perspective in Health Promotion: Applications of the Do-Live-Well Framework

Interprofessional Education Session on Compassionate Care - September 2015

• Attended a presentation by Ms. Françoise Mathieu, M.Ed., RP, and CCC. Françoise is a Registered Psychotherapist in the province of Ontario and compassion fatigue specialist

• Following the presentation I was able to identify the newest research findings in reducing/managing Compassion Fatigue and Secondary Trauma, I learned about three key tools for practice, and was able to explore new directions building resiliency skills

• Attended a two day interactive workshop on suicide intervention training where I learned how to intervene and prevent the immediate risk of suicide

• Attended a presentation by Andrea Andrecyk who is a professional athlete and coordinator of the Peer Support Program for Spinal Cord Injury Ontario, and Colin Higgs MSc, MEd, PhD who is a Board member of the Canadian Paralympic Committee and advisor to the International Paralympic Committee

• Gained an understanding of the sporting options and capabilities for individuals who are wheel-chair bound
